WOODPECKER OF THE VOLCANO

Magellanic woodpecker of the volcano is a must on the slopes of Villarrica volcano . With the imposing view of its snowy top we will walk over old lava flows and then into a native forest with large Coihues that have witnessed ancestral eruptions.

This is the habitat of the Magellanic woodpecker that we will observe and photograph in perfect conditions of light and distance. We will also hear and observe the shy chucao and will expect to see Darwin’s frog , in danger of extinction.

  • Distance: 15 Kms by car  to the volcano slope.
  • Trekking: 1.5 hours , moderate.
