Nycticorax nycticorax obscurus (Bonaparte)

Length: 57 cms.

Blackish head with iridescent blue. Forehead and supercilliars white. Two or three long feathers which go back from the head. Upper and lower back with blue and green iridescence white throat. Breast and abdomen light grey, and darker grey wings. Dark thick beak. Yellow feet. Red eyes.
