Merganetta armata armata (Gould)

Length: 42 – 43 cms.

Male: head and neck from the forehead to the nape. Black line from the eyes continuing back until the lower part of the neck. Black under the eyes, cheeks, throat and neck. Sides and upper breast black and lower part brown with black rays.

Female: head and back of neck grey. Cheeks, throat, front of the neck, breast abdomen, sides, flanks and undertail coverts reddish brown. Scapula and mantle black with feathers edged with grey.
